How Spray Foam Insulation Kalamazoo Works

Spray Foam Insulation Kalamazoo insulates and air seals homes, garages, pole barns and small commercial buildings in Kalamazoo, Portage and the surrounding townships and villages. We spray closed-cell and open-cell foam, blow in cellulose or fiberglass, fill closed wall cavities, and take out old insulation that is wet, dirty or in the way of proper air sealing.

Every job starts with a visit. We walk the attic, the basement or crawl space, and any wall, garage or outbuilding you want looked at. We measure what insulation is already there, check its condition, and trace the leaks that matter most in a southwest Michigan winter: top plates, plumbing and flue chases, recessed lights, attic hatches, and the rim joist where the framing sits on the foundation. We also look for problems that new insulation would hide, such as roof leaks, damp sill plates, knob-and-tube wiring or old vermiculite.

Then we tell you what we would do and why. Foam is the right material in some places and the wrong one in others. A wide-open attic floor is usually cheaper to seal and then blow in to depth. A rim joist, a cathedral ceiling or the steel roof of a pole barn usually calls for foam. When two approaches would both work, we price them side by side.

How we run a job

  • Inspect before pricing. No number goes on paper until we have seen the space.
  • Write it down. The estimate lists each area with its material, depth or thickness, target R-value and price.
  • Seal, then insulate. Air leaks are closed before new insulation goes over them.
  • Protect the house. Floors and belongings get covered, the work area is closed off and ventilated, and we clean up when we leave.
  • Plan around the weather. Foam has temperature limits, so attics, unheated garages and pole barns get scheduled with the season in mind.
  • Changes in writing. If something new turns up once work begins, we talk it through and agree on it before going further.
